Piston Pumps at Horns Rev – Denmark's Largest Wind Farm

With many wind farms still to come, Per Aarsleff is well prepared for the future. 

The largest wind farm in Denmark is the offshore wind farm of Horns Rev, which was completed in 2002. It is situated in the North Sea, 14-20 km off the coast of Jutland. With its 80 pieces 2MW turbines, the wind farm has a total capacity of 160 MW. That makes it the largest offshore wind farm in the world today (2003). The farm supplies the equivalent of 150,000 (Danish) households. The larger production compared to Nysted is due to better wind conditions.

At this moment the cables are coming to land and need to be transferred 57 km further into Denmark. For 40  km a dewatering has to be set up for laying the cables. For this dewatering job, BBA Pumps has supplied Per Aarsleff 20 pcs piston pumps in super silent execution. The piston pump has been chosen because of low energy consumption, as well as for their reliability. The BBA piston pumps can run dry unrestrictedly and requires very low maintenance. With a noise level of 49 dB at 10 m Per Aarsleff has chosen for a pump system they can use in residential areas.
