Electrically driven BBA piston pumps for Ballast Nedam

Since its’ opening in 1973 the Eemshaven seaport has gone through a number of significant changes. Since the nineties, the port has been experiencing significant growth and it has established itself as a gateway for the Baltic sea and the industrial heart of Germany, the Ruhr area (Ruhrgebiet).

In the so-called Eastern Lobe (Oostlob), a number of power generation sites are to be erected and an expansion of the seaport will be realised. Ballast Nedam, one of Hollands’ leading contractors has been awarded the dewatering of the building site for a multi-fuel power plant in the Eastern Lobe and has decided to invest in a number of electrically driven BBA PT piston pumps.

PT electric driven pump in sound attenuated canopy

As the building site is a vast, open area located next to the North Sea, strong winds in combination with the sandy soil cause drift-sand to be a major problem. To protect the pumpsets from this harsh environment, Ballast Nedam has selected the sound-attenuated version of the electric PT pumps. The sound attenuating canopy reduces sound emissions to a mere 43 dB(A) at 10 metres, but for this application, the protection provided by the canopy proved to be the critical factor. The galvanised steel frame in combination with the powder coated steel doors protect the pump from the elements, thereby preventing damage and down-time. In addition, the lockable canopy protects the pump from vandalism, unauthorised operation and shields workers from moving parts.
