Flooding precautions in Luxemburg

Heavy rainfall and water coming from the Ardennes causes the Luxembourgian river Sauer to swell and break its banks. After heavy flooding in 1993 and 1994 the town of Ingeldorf decided to take structural precautions to avert the flood threat.

By broadening the riverbanks, placing a protective wall and redirecting the sewerage the flood risk was significantly reduced.

In addition to this there are eight tractor-driven
B300 BBA Pumps mobile pump sets on stand-by. When flooding is imminent these pump sets are operational within the hour to dispose of the water. Last January when the river levels rose again the pumps proved their worth.
