Dewatering a pond
In Lommel (Belgium) a sand mine has awarded a contract to a Dutch earthmoving contractor to remove a 6 metre sand layer to expose a layer of white sand. The white sand is mined and refined to be sold as a premium quality product throughout the world. Although this contract is challenging on its own, the contractor faced an additional challenge as the sand layer we are talking about is actually the bottom of a 400.000 m3 water pond. In order to dewater the pond and thereby allowing access to the sand layer, the contractor has contacted BBA Pumps for a solution. After carefully assessing the requirements, a BA250 has been selected for this application. This auto-prime contractor pump offers high flows at a low head, thereby offering maximum performance at minimum power consumption. Due to careful pump sizing, the BBA unit consumes less fuel which results in an immediate reduction of running costs. In addition, the excellent fuel economy of the unit increases the fuel autonomy of the unit, resulting in even higher cost savings.
