What is dewatering?

Dewatering is the term used for the drainage of unwanted surface water or groundwater from a waterlogged or flooded area. Dewatering is commonly used in construction sites and in mining where the presence of water hinders the successful operation of the site.

Dewatering pumps

Dewatering involves the use of mobile pumps and piping, the size and capacity of which is dependent on the volume of water and the distance to the discharge point. Dewatering pumps must be wear-resistant and have a large free passage, as surface water contains certain percentages of sand, which would otherwise damage or block the pump. Mining dewatering pumps

BBA Pumps has a lot of experience with mining dewatering pumps. Our BA series consists of high volume pumps and high head pumps for dewatering open-pit mines and underground mines. Mining water is often polluted, and the pH value can be low due to the presence of minerals. Our mining dewatering pumps have a large solids handling and are available in stainless steel. Wellpoint dewatering

Dewatering of surface water is easier than dewatering of groundwater. Wellpoint dewatering is the solution for lowering the groundwater level. The dewatering of groundwater is regulated in many countries and controlled by authorities. It is often forbidden to reduce the level of the groundwater without good cause. Wellpoint dewatering allows very accurate lowering of the groundwater level.

How does dewatering work?

Rainwater, groundwater or leakage water are a constant problem in the mining and construction industries. The best way to remove water quickly is through the use of a mobile dewatering pump system. To select a suitable pump for any dewatering project, simply calculate the amount of water that needs to be drained (per hour) and the distance to its discharge point. The dewatering pump will have to be set up as close to the water as possible. In an open mine, for instance, it will typically be placed on a pontoon. Once the hoses and discharge pipes are put in place the dewatering process can start.
